TEAMS RESUME WINNING WAYS IN LEAGUE ACTION

A full programme of DDSL League games were down for decision last  week-end and most proceeded untroubled by bad weather or ground conditions.

On Friday night our 11 Premier played Crumlin United on the all-weather pitch in Pearse Park and won 4-1 playing some excellent football and scoring four very good goals – Ryan Graydon’s being the pick of the bunch.

Saturday saw a triple header at Shanowen Road with our 13p, 14p and 12p at home to Crumlin United, Ballyoulster United and Esker United respectively and it ended with three emphatic wins – the 13p won 3-0 with goals from Thomas Tiernan and Shane Elworthy (2) .

The 14p won 5-1 – Eoghan Stokes (2), Evan Shine, Philip Gannon and Jack Byrne the scorers, while the 12p won 3-1 – despite falling behind in the first half they recovered well with three second half goals from Jason Groves, Robbie McCourt and Jamie Gray to keep their 100% record intact.

Ellenfield hosted two games on Saturday with the 13Major and 14 Major both securing league wins 3-0 v Lucan United and 2-0 v Dunboyne AFC respectively  as they both prepare for important SFAI Cup games this coming week.

BALLYMUN UNITED 1  v  St Kevins Boys  2

Any result other than a St Kevins win in their AUL Premier A League game away to Ballymun United at their newly opened and impressive grounds would have been an injustice as Phil Long’s men were the best side throughout.

They led at half time through a Darragh Joyce goal and had claims for two penalties waved away in the first half – a half which saw them reduced to 10 men when Johnny Carroll saw two yellows just before the interval.

Despite the numerical disadvantage they continued to take the game to Ballymun with Stuart Glenn and Gareth Murphy being busy upfront and offering the midfield trio of Eamon Moylan Darragh Joyce and Gaz Mahoney an outlet to keep the Ballymun defence on full alert.

The back 5 of Hannon, Cromwell, Dillon, Gannon and Cameron dealt capably with anything that came their way – although the introduction by Ballymun of Davy Kane did help the home side put them under a bit more pressure in the last 15 minutes.

Going into injury time the game looked like remaining a 1-0 away win but Mr Reynolds the referee deceided to make a draw of it by awarding the home side a penalty when a cross from the right was deemed by him to have been handled by Matt Gannon when anyone with any sight at all could see that he had crontrolled the ball with his chest. The penalty was duly converted following protracted and heated argument. 1-1.

From the resulting tip-off St Kevins tore into Ballymun to try and rescue the points and within a minute Eamon Moylan had redressed the balance with a superb individual goal to put the game and points beyond doubt.
