16 Major advance in SFAI Cup

Anto Devlin’s 16 Major squad were hoping that the bad weather forecast for the weekend would not put paid to their much awaited 3rd round SFAI Barry Cup game against Home Farm’s 16 Premier outfit such was their confidence of causing an upset.

Their League form this season has been excellent having been promoted to the Major section following an unbeaten season last year in the A League and they were well prepared for yesterdays game at Mobhi Road.

As in most tight cup games the team who scores first are the ones who normally find that extra bit of heart and energy to protect their advantage and yesterday was no different when after 15 minutes following a move straight from the training ground – according to manager Anto Devlin – Phillip Kavanagh headed on a throw-in and both Aaron Dequina and Eoin Mooney are claiming the last vital touch to score what turned out to be the winner. A solid team performance all round for the entire game formed the basis of this victory which follows up their previous round win over Wayside Celtic and sets them up for their next game in this cup – away to Premier League leaders Cherry Orchard. The management are already plotting and planning another upset – why not?

GOALS GALORE

With most games called off  around the city over the weekend with undue haste  in anticipation of a deluge that never materialised Shanowen Road staged four games - three on Saturday and one on Sunday – with a total of thirty five goals being scored and just one conceeded.

There were League wins for the 11Premier 12-0 over Leicester Celtic and the 14 Premier 6-0 against Cherry Orchard while the 12Premier advanced in the SFAI Norton Cup with a 10-0 win over Drogheda Boys.

The AUL 1 squad booked a home fourth round FAI Junior Cup tie against Kilester United when they disposed of Markievicz Celtic 7-1. The game against Kilester United should draw a large crowd for what should be a great game and it will also gauge the full extent of the improved form of  our first team this season.

Our 13Premier continued their great run of success with a very good 2-0 away League win over St Josephs Boys.

There were League wins also for our Senior Saturday side 2-1 away at Sheriff YC, 8-1 Sun 3-1 away at WFTA, while our 15Major and 16.3 both drew away at Joeys.
