The final of the St.Kevins Boys invitational football tournament ended with Aberdeen FC beating the Dublin District schoolboy league in a penalty shoot-out after a very tight contest.
The tournament started on Friday with six teams competing for the first trophy at under 12 age level at the clubs grounds in Shanowen Road. Academies from West Brom, Hull City, Coventry FC, Aberdeen, DDSL and St.Kevins Boys premier squad were taking part.
The DDSL defeated St.Kevins in the semi-finals by 4 goals to 1 on Saturday evening, with Aberdeen winning out against Coventry by 2 goals to nil in the other semi.
On Sunday West Brom defeated Hull City by 3 goals to 2, to decide 5th and 6th places. St.Kevins ran out winners in beating Coventry by 2 goals to nil to clinch 3rd spot.
And so to the final, in a very competitive game, both Aberdeen and the DDSL entertained the large crowd with some skilful football. Both sides had their chances, but the defences were the winners on the day and the result after 60 minutes was a scoreless draw. Straight into penalties where Aberdeen ran out winners by 4-2, with the Aberdeen keeper saving 1 and the other hitting the post.
The presentation was held immediately after in the club’s refurbished sports hall, where Aberdeen FC where presented with the winning glass trophy by St.Kevins football Director, Ken Donohoe. Jack Byrne of St.Kevins Boys was voted player of the tournament by all of the participating teams. The 3 match officials were Paddy Dempsey, James Connell and Robert Harvey, with the latter doing the final. All teams were present and received their medals after a thoroughly entertaining 3 days of football.
The next big football occasion will be the club’s recent link up with Liverpool to hold their soccer school on the 17th, 18th and 19th of July in the royal college of surgeons, cloghran, with Liverpool coaches exclusively looking after the competitions and matches.

A great tournament. Very well organised and run. Fair play to everyone for all their hard work.
