11s & 13s ADVANCE IN SFAI CUPS

SFAI Menton-Seery Cup  S K B 11 Premier 8  v  Lakewood Athletic  0

SFAI Troy Cup  S K B 13 Premier 7  v  Willow Park  0

“Start on the front foot as you mean to go on” – this instruction is given to players in lots of dressing rooms the world over week after week but it is not always carried to fruition by the players on the pitch. This was certainly not the case last Saturday afternoon in Cork and Athlone where our 11Premier and 13Premier teams were in action in the SFAI Menton-Seery and Troy Cups respectively.

It took less than one minute for Evan Pierce to give the 11s the lead against Lakewood Athletic while it took all of seven minutes for Richie Purdy to do likewise for the 13s against Willow Park in Athlone, Purdy soon made it two and had completed his hat-trick by half time and might have claimed a fourth only for his low cross being diverted into his own net by the Willow Park full back to leave it 4-0 at the break. The 11s went in at half time leading 3-0.

The dominance of both teams continued after the break with Tom Tiernan and Graham Kelly adding to the 13s tally before Josh Clifford made it seven with a suberb header at the end of a six man move which he had played an earlier part in. Evan Pierce got his second for the 11s, and he along with Aaron Townley – who scored a hat trick – Ryan Graydon, Cian Farrell and Killian Doyle made it eight at the finish.

The 11s are at home in the quarter-finals and could host our Major team in that game if the latter win their last 16 game against opponents yet to be determined.

The 13s will be on the road again possibly to Cork to face Corinthian Boys.
