GOALS GALORE AS SKB TEAM’S ADVANCE IN SFAI CUPS & ROUNDUP

The last 32 of the various SFAI Cup games began last weekend and it was a most successful two days in terms of SKB teams progressing to the last 16 of the SFAI Menton Seery Cup, the SFAI Norton Cup, the SFAI Troy Cup and the SFAI Evans Cup.

In the SFAI Menton Seery Cup both of our 11A teams had facile wins over Balbriggan F C and Broadford United from Limerick scoring an aggregate total of 20 goals between them and they move on to home ties in the last 16 to Wilton from Cork and  Ballinasloe  or Tullamore F C.

While some may be critical of having an SFAI tournament for SSG teams which produce some lopsided results so also do National Cup ties at all other ages and Clubs should not be criticized for beating what is put in front of them at any stage, when teams enter tournaments they do so with a view to winning them and should they not have that objective the opportunity is there for them to decline to enter.

Our 12 Premier made light of atrocious conditions in Wexford town on Saturday where they played North End in the last 32 of the SFAI Norton Cup.  A goal up after 30 seconds they had doubled this advantage by half time and eventually ran out winners 8-0 in a game played in torrential rain throughout.  They will be on the road again in the last 16 away to Manulla FC in Mayo.

On Sunday our Brenfer 13 Premier played Swilly Rovers from Donegal at Shanowen Road and won 4-0 advancing to a home tie in the last 16 against Killavilla, hopefully they will be joined in that round by our 13 Premier DDSL side who this week travelled to Cork to play Middelton F C with a further away tie awaiting the winners against Fairview Rangers in Limerick.  The  13 premier warmed up for the trip to Cork in the best possible fashion by beating  Cherry Orchard away in a very important League game last Saturday (1-0).

In the SFAI Evans Cup our 15 Premier scored 5 without reply in overcoming Ormonde Villa from Kilkenny in the last 32 moving on to a tough away fixture in the next round against Villa F C from Waterford.

Other noteable  results over the weekend was our 14 premier’s who beat our local rivals Home Farm away 2-1 coming from a goal down to score twice in the closing stages to score an important victory.  Our 15.2 and 16.3 had away victories in Cabinteely 3-0 and 4-2 respectively while the weather played havoc with most of the rest of the scheduled programme.

Our AUL 2 team went out of the AUL Myles O’Neill Cup on aggregate 3-4 over two legs to Mountview United on Saturday in heavy conditions in Wards Cross.
