CLEAN SWEEP OF WINS

CLEAN SWEEP OF CUP VICTORIES

5 SKB teams took the field on Saturday in the last 64 of various SFAI Cup competitions and all recorded good wins to keep the dream of cup glory in May very much alive while 2 other teams (13p & 16p) having travelled to Killeigh F C (Tullamore) and Portlaois F C respectively only to find both venues declared unplayable due to frostbound pitches.

Two of our non-Premier teams involved in cup action – 11Major and 14 Major – played host to Arklow Town and New Ross Celtic respectively in Ellenfield Park winning 3-2 and 3-0 in tough underfoot conditions thereby earning last 32 spots against Cork opposition at home in the case of the 11 Major and a trip southwards for the 14 Major to Waterford or Kerry.

The third non-Premier team in action – 13Major – travelled to Kilnamanagh F C and scored an emphatic 7-0 win to set up a last 32 game at home to Shamrocks, Slane Wanderers or Lakelands where they will be hoping to progress further.

Both teams playing at Shanowen Road – 11Premier & 12Premier – scored facile wins over Edenderry Town 11-0 and Mullingar Athletic 8-0 but they will encounter much stiffer opposition in the last 32 with the 11Premier playing host to Premier league rivals Malahide United and the 12s travelling south to either Ferrybank, Nenagh or Corinthians Boys – nothing easy there.

FIRST TEAM WIN IN LEINSTER JUNIOR CUP

Four goals from scoring machine Gareth Murphy played a major part in our First teams’ victory at Shanowen Road yesterday over a game Mullingar Athletic side who never stopped trying even though the game had slipped totally beyond their grasp by half-time. Murphy was joined on the scoresheet by Derek Treston (2) and Johnny Carroll.

The downside of  the win were injuries picked up in the first half by Eamon Moylan (hamstring) and Darragh Joyce (head injury/concussion) which forced them out of the game and a needless red card picked up late in the game by Chris McMahon. Baldoyle United or WFTA are the next round opponents.

Tony Gleesons 11.3 made it into the next round of the SFAI Menton/Seery Cup with a 6-0 home win over Walshestown in heavy conditions at Ward Cross and so join our 11 Premier and 11 Major sides in the last 32 of the competition – surely a first for us or for any club for that matter to have three teams in the last 32 of the one National Cup.

The 15Premier went out of the SFAI Evans Cup 1-2 to Premier rivals St Josephs Boys in a disappointing display yesterday at Ward Cross and also our 16 Majors’ run in the SFAI Barry Cup was ended by Cherry Orchard at the Lawn.

Ger Lostys 15.3 moved into the 3rd round of the DDSL Cox Cup with a hard fought 4-3 win over St Marks in Butler Park the feature of which was a superb hat-trick from Albert Okola with Luke Gannon also on the scoresheet.
