SFAI NORTON Cup (Round of 16)
Ballincollig F C 0 v 1 St Kevins Boys 12 Premier
Ballincollig in the western suburbs of Cork city was the venue for our 12 Premier’s second vist to that city this month. Having disposed of College Corinthians quite comfortably in the last round this game was always going to be a tougher proposition and it turned out to be just that – a tense tough battle with no prisoners taken. The home side had done their homework and from the start they tore into tackles and worked very hard to deny us the opportunity to play our normal game but we refused to be intimidated by both their tactics and the large vocal home supporters. Having stood up to the initial onslaught Dan Mandriou and Jason Groves in midfield and the back four of Luke Wade-Slater, Robbie McCourt, Nathan Garland and Luke Doyle got to grips with the situation and half-time arrived with the game still scoreless. The all important breakthrough came 10 minutes into the second half when Stephen Meaney drove home a cracker via the post. With the advantage gained we dug in and held out comfortably despite eight minutes of additional time being played. We will be travelling again in the quarter final with Parkvilla / Mallow AFC / Ballymackey our opponents.
